The Scientific Association of Biologists Without Borders of Cosenza (ASBSF),
for the second consecutive year, organized a meeting on the occasion of
World Food Day (GMA), promoted by Food and Agricolture Organization of the
United Nations (FAO).
The event, held on 16 October 2019 at the Museum of the Environment
RiMuseum-University of Calabria in Rende (CS), saw the participation of a
school group from the Comprehensive School Fausto Gullo of Cosenza.
The theme dealt with was the FAO Sustainable Development Goal 2, which this
year draws the attention of all sectors so that everyone has access to
healthy and sustainable diets. At the same time, it asks everyone to start
reflecting on our diet, understood both as a conscious choice of food but
also as respect for the environment, preventing the exploitation of natural
resources and combating the waste of the products derived from them.
The problems related to the ease of access to the so-called "Junk Food" and
the methods of approach to the correct choice of food have been outlined, to
then deal with the arguments on the repercussions towards human health and
the environmental one, consequent to an inadequate management of food.
The meeting with young people received great attention especially thanks to
the previous awareness on the topics carried out by the teacher Maria
Patrizia Beltrano, referent to health education for actions to combat youth
distress, who accompanied her students together with the support teacher
Maria Assunta Napoli.
Some images, projected by Dr. Gaetana La Porta and Dr. Teresa Pandolfi
(ASBSF biologists), were taken from the FAO activity book on the 2019 World
Food Day, freely available on the dedicated website.
